My Halloween project

Friday afternoon while nursing Willa while Eli was taking a nap I was watching our 1 TV channel we seem to get clearly sometimes (have I mentioned how I hate the digital age?). Anyway there was this show on and they were giving Halloween decorating tips, normally we don't decorate except for FALL stuff but this one thing caught my attention. It was a cute thing they did that would allow you to just set it on the porch and add candy, which appealed to me because we enjoy handing out candy but knew we wouldn't be home this year. So I told Casey about it and we decided to do it ourselves. I will be posting pictures and explaining how we did it later in this post.

After getting the supplies we needed for this project I started trying to think of ways to include a way to minister to the children and or parents. Early Sunday morning while I was nursing Willa (seems I do my best thinking while nursing her) I thought maybe I could print up little bible verses and roll them up into little scrolls and attach to the candy. So after feeding her I googled "bible verses for children" I found the following website. http://ministry-to-children.com/   I found their bible verses and then noticed that several included coloring pages you can print and low and behold one was a halloween coloring page. How cool was that? The verse used was "Do not be afraid, for I am with you". PERFECT, so I downloaded the coloring pages (there is a boys page and a girls page) re-sized them to 3x5 and printed them off to roll up and attach to the treats. The whole project only took a couple of hours, and I was able to complete most of it during the kids nap time. So here is my project with instructions. :)

First start out with a medium sized pumpkin and draw dots.
Next get a Bag of Suckers
Print the coloring pages.....
Cut the pictures out.
Then I cut small pieces of ribbon and had Casey get me a cordless drill with a small bit.
Then I had to fold and then roll each coloring sheet and tie with the ribbon.
I don't have a picture of the next two steps but what I did was tie the little "scrolls" to the suckers and had Casey drill holes in the pumpkin. Finally we set up our little "decorated" pumpkin.
Then I also had the idea of using this to promote my business so I put this little sign up. It also has the bible verse used in the coloring pages on it and if you look on the rail there is a box that has some of my business cards in it.
The finished product, the thing is there are a LOT of suckers and unless you have a LOT of kids that come to your door, you might want to opt for a smaller pumpkin with a smaller bag of suckers. There were about 160 here. Overall it was super cute and didn't take that long to create. Granted if you did JUST the suckers it would take about 15min to do. :)
